Staff Accountant

Numerica is seeking to hire a Staff Accountant to assist the accounting department in providing accurate, timely and consistent historical information for internal and external users; while demonstrating a positive, customer-focused attitude and a strong desire to learn and develop professional skills. 

Position Summary:             
This is an entry-level position where there will be exposure to a variety of accounting activities.  Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will  strengthen and develop your business knowledge and expertise by being a part of a fast growing company that delivers technology solutions to government and industry customers.  Successful candidates will have a strong willingness to learn, be a team player, and be able to adapt to the changing needs of a small business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
  • Work extensively in the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed asset and timesheet modules to assist in providing an accurate and compliant rendering of the company’s financial activity.  Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax code provide the necessary foundation for which transactions are recorded, analyzed, and reported.
  • Performs month-end and year-end closing activities including the preparation, and posting of journal entries, timesheets, revenue, fixed assets, and billing.
  • Participates in the preparation of the incurred cost proposal.
  • Analyzes and prepares financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, company wide-statement of indirects, and other financial reports.
  • Compiles and reports information for annual external audits and reviews.
  • Provides technical direction, and guidance to Numerica’s Accounting and Contracts Specialist.
  • Follows Numerica procedures for the reporting of sensitive contract cost, and other financial and employee information to external and internal customers.
  • Prepare form documents customarily used in Numerica’s business operations.
  • Maintain properly organized files that appropriately document transactions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submittal of property taxes, and use taxes.
  • Monitors, on a monthly basis, the submittal and approval of timesheets and communicates with employees ensuring timely completion, if needed.
  • Facilitate regular timesheet floor checks, and follow-up with employees to ensure proper timekeeping practices.
  • Participate in the closeout of contracts.  Provide information on the status of closeout, as necessary.
  • Maintain a keen awareness of Numerica’s policies and procedures, and relevant regulations.  Act as a compliance supervisor for the Indirect Purchasing Policy. Communicate, and/or train employees as necessary to comply with the current processes.
  • Cross train contract staff, in the area of accounting, to ensure appropriate backup of high risk tasks.  This includes maintaining documentation of current procedures, and testing of those procedures on a regular basis.
  • Be familiar with contract requirements as they provide important detail that can influence accounting transactions and presentation.
  • Manage Numerica’s fixed assets, and maintain records of assets, locations, and disposals through use of an annual physical inventory count.
  • Completes special projects, as needed.

Functional and Technical Skills Required:
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities, with a high detail orientation and expectation for quality.
  • Able to understand and learn specific accounting system processes, and resolve issues surrounding those processes.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Word).
  • Willingness to learn and apply the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and other relevant regulations affecting Numerica’s industry.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of accounting theory and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Must possess a Bachelor of Business Administration with emphasis in accounting (minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale).
  • 0 – 2 years full time professional accounting experience.
U.S. Citizenship Required

Due to the nature of the work performed at Numerica, all applicants must be capable of obtaining a U.S. Security Clearance. At a minimum, this requires that a candidate be a U.S. citizen with a personal history indicating trustworthiness, reliability, and sound judgment (e.g., clean criminal record, no use of illegal drugs, etc.).

Salary range:  $65,000 - $75,000 plus incentives, depending on experience.
